Join us in celebrating Black History Month this February. This is a reminder to have open conversations with our children around issues of racial discrimination, oppression and restorative justice along with celebrating Black histories, achievement and joy. We recommend the learning resources and read-alouds from Teaching From Change.
When we are willing to have the hard conversations about injustices of the past and advocate for change in the future, we will make lasting changes in ourselves and our community. May we learn from the African symbol of the Sankofa bird that literally translates to “look to the past to inform the future.”
During this month, NSD is acknowledging and participating in the National Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action from January 31 – February 4, 2022. It is an opportunity for our community to participate. Find out more by visiting the district’s website.
