Martin Luther King Jr. Day – January 16th 2023

On the third Monday in January, we celebrate the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. This day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, “a day on, not a day off,” to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities, honoring Dr. King’s work for racial equality and nonviolent social change.
We invite our Kenmore Community to reflect on Dr. King’s work in meaningful ways:
- Listen to the read-aloud “Martin’s Big Words: The life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”
- Volunteer at Wallace Swamp Creek Park’s work party 1/16. Or volunteer virtually with United Way.
- Read books from your local library and commit to start meaningful conversations on racism and social justice in your community.
- Watch an NSD Community Panel or sign up for a FREE parent education webinar
- Visit the Northwest African American Museum for their MLK celebration event
- Join KEPTA’s Racial and Educational Justice committee.
“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
