Arab American Heritage Month – Kenmore Elementary PTA

April is Arab American Heritage month, celebrating Arab American culture and its contributions to our society and community. Arab Americans trace their origins back to almost 22 Arabic speaking countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Celebrate alongside our KE PTA by:

Creating Arabic food as a family by trying some of these recipes this month
Doing activities as a family to learn more about the Arab American culture and contributions to society
Read some Arabic literature with your kiddos. Check out these read alouds: “Baba, What Does My Name Mean? A Journey to Palestine”, “The Arabic Quilt: An Immigrant Story” and “Other Words for Home.”
Check out these great books from Social Justice Books and PBS kids.

This month, Arab American Heritage month coincides with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a period of 30 days where Muslims are required to abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset. During Ramadan, Muslims spend their time in reflection and prayer. The end of Ramadan is marked with a huge celebration called Eid al Fitr. Check out this read aloud with your KE Cubs: “Lilah’s Lunchbox: A Ramadan Story”.
