Martin Luther King Jr. Day – January 20th 2025
Click here for NSD’s Elementary Adapted Land and Peoples Acknowledgment.
On the third Monday in January, we celebrate the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. This day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, “a day on, not a day off.” Help celebrate Dr. King’s life and work for racial equality and nonviolent social change by doing something to make our community a better place!
We invite our Kenmore Community to reflect on Dr. King’s work in meaningful ways:
-
Listen to the read-aloud “Martin’s Big Words” by Doreen Rappaport
-
Read books, articles, and explore NSD’s resource guide to start meaningful conversations about race and social justice in your home and community
-
Watch a Parent Ed video or the film Who We Are
-
Volunteer at a local Day of Service even in Bothell/Kenmore or elsewhere in the greater area of Seattle On 1/20.
-
Contribute to Kenmore’s Little Free Food Pantry or Reading In Color Library
-
Visit the Northwest African American Museum (NAAM) for King Day 2025 celebration event on 1/20 where the theme is “Forward Together” featuring art exhibits & community resource fair
