Racial & Educational Justice

At Kenmore Elementary, our diversity is our strength. Your voice matters.

Kenmore Elementary PTA Land Acknowledgement:
We acknowledge that present day Kenmore Elementary School stands on the unceded and ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people, who are still here, continuing to honor and bring light to their ancient heritage. We acknowledge that this does not take the place of authentic relationships with Indigenous communities, but serves as a first step in honoring the land on which we learn and resisting the erasure of Indigenous past, present and future.
About us:

This committee has been formed as a resource for our school parents, students, families and teachers. We are learning right alongside you and trying to ensure that the messaging, programming and services offered by the PTA are equitable, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone. We are always open to more members and your feedback! The more diverse voices we have on this committee and in our PTA, the stronger and more representative of our student community we will become.

Our mission statement:

A PTA and community resource to support families, staff and students in order to create a more equitable environment which recognizes and fosters the brilliance and potential of every child.

Our model:
Northshore School District – Racial & Educational Justice Department.

Our action items for the 2023-2024 school year:

  1. The committee will act as a resource for PTA chairs to ensure that all programming, services and activities KEPTA sponsors is viewed through an equitable lens.

  2. Grow our PTA membership to reflect the diverse student body at our school where everyone has a voice for their child. We acknowledge that PTA spaces haven’t always been welcoming to all and it is our intention to create a safe space for all families alongside one another.

  3. Let’s Get Loud – Share our resources for staff & caregivers for National Monthly & Day recognitions on all PTA social platforms. See resources below:
  4. Create an equitable checklist for committee chairs to use for all PTA events, activities, and programming.

Book Conversations:

Last year, KEPTA’s REJ team read This Book is Anti-Racist written by Tiffany Jewell.
